I have received a lovely Phalaenopsis orchid from one of your garden centres for Valentine’s Day, I would appreciate advice on how to best care for this lovely plant.
Phalaenopsis are a fab orchid! If looked after properly it will flower annually year on year! Read on for instructions:
A light and bright position that must not be in direct sunlight, away from draughts and radiators. Orchids like a warm, humid atmosphere so bathrooms are perfect!
Watering (late autumn, winter, early spring)
Dunk your orchid to within 50mm (2 inches) of the top of the bark. Leave for 10-20 minutes. Repeat this fortnightly. The water should be room temperature; ideally rain water or tap water that has been left to rest for a min of 24 hours.
Watering (summer, early autumn)
Submerge your orchid and Leave for 30 minutes - repeat weekly. The water should be room temperature; ideally rain water or tap water that has been left to rest for a min of 24 hours.
Feeding regime (in flower)
Feed with specialist flowering orchid fertiliser, following the application instructions.
