What should I feed wild birds over winter?
Providing wild birds with high energy foods on a regular basis can make a huge difference when it comes to the coldest months. Feeding wild birds animal fats such as suet balls are perfect for keeping birds going, as are mealworms - supplying robins and starlings with the protein they need. Birds are extremely good at identifying what’s good for them, so to avoid wasted food, try to get the best quality bird feed you can.
Also, establishing a feeding routine is beneficial to wild birds - so try not to change it as they become used to their regular timed visits!
