Clematis 'Happy Anniversary' is a superb free-flowering new variety with large, wavy-edged soft mauve-blue flowers with a cluster of brownish-red anthers in May-June and again in August-September. Suitable for training up a wall, arch or trellis and for growing in a large container.

Height and spread 2.5m by 1m (8ft x 40in). An anniversary gift which will give years of pleasure! Plant in deep, fertile, humus-rich soil, in sun or partial shade, with its roots in shade. For container-growing, use a 50:50 mix of John Innes No 3 potting compost and multi-purpose compost. Keep well watered and feed fortnightly with a balanced liquid fertiliser during the growing season.

Pruning group 2: in February or March remove dead, damaged or weak stems and cut remaining stems back to the highest strong pair of buds.
