Clematis 'Shikoo' is a sensational new variety launched at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2012. It produces gorgeous large purple-blue flowers with a paler central bar with an outer row of petals surrounding a double rosette of shorter petals, in May-June and again in September, with occasional single flowers mixed with the double ones. Suitable for training up a wall, arch or trellis with other climbers or for growing up an obelisk in a border or large container. Lovely with climbing roses of any shade.

Height and spread 2-3m by 1m (6.5- 10ft x 40in). Plant in deep, well-drained, humus-rich soil, in sun or partial shade, with its roots in shade. Mulch around the roots in spring with well-rotted manure or compost and feed with a slow release fertilizer. Keep plants in containers well watered and feed fortnightly with a balanced liquid fertiliser during the growing season.

Pruning group 2: prune lightly before growth begins in February- March.

British nursery grown.
