Berberis thunbergii 'Bagatelle' is a splendid dwarf variety of this popular easy and hardy shrub, forming a compact hummock of deep purple-red leaves, turning ruby-red in autumn. Clusters of pale yellow flowers opening from maroon buds in spring are followed by shiny blood red berries. Delightful for the front of a shrub or mixed border or in a rock garden.
Height and spread 30cm by 40cm (12in x 16in). Thrives in most well-drained soils, with best foliage colour and berrying in full sun. No pruning should be required.
