Lonicera japonica 'Purpurea'
Honeysuckle - 3 litres
Lonicera japonica 'Purpurea' is a distinct variety of the Japanese honeysuckle, combining strongly fragrant rose-purple and cream flowers from May to August, followed by shiny black berries, with handsome dark green evergreen leaves tinged purple, turning deep purple in late autumn and winter, providing colour and interest over many months. Popular with bees, butterflies and moths.
Ideal for walls, fences, arches, arbours and other structures, less rampant than most varieties of this species, with a height and spread of 3-4m by 2.5-3m (10-13ft x 8-10ft). To train on walls and fences tie in to horizontal wires at 45cm (18in) intervals. Mulch with garden compost or well-rotted manure in spring. Pruning only necessary to restrict size, in late winter.
