Trachelospermum jasminoides, the Star Jasmine, is a self-clinging, evergreen climber smothered with gloriously fragrant white Jasmine-like flowers in July-August, against a background of glossy, deep green leaves which turn dark red in winter. Popular with bees and butterflies. Capable of growing up to 9m high by 7m (30ft by 23ft) in mild areas.
Plant in well-drained, fertile soil, in sun or partial shade, by a sheltered warm wall. Also suitable for a cool conservatory. No regular pruning is required except to restrict its size if required, which should be carried out in spring.
This plant has an RHS Award of Garden Merit.
