Prunus laurocerasus 'Etna' is a highly ornamental compact variety of laurel with attractive bronze new growth, contrasting with its dark green mature foliage. It has the same scented white flowers in spring as other laurels. It is slower-growing than ordinary laurel, though also exceptionally dense and is ideal for a 1-1.8m.hedge or as a specimen ornamental shrub. It can be kept neat and compact by trimming once a year or allowed to grow to a large size for screening purposes. Height and spread in 10 years 1.5-1.8m by 1.5m.
Thrives in any reasonably well-drained soil, including clay soils, in sun or shade. Plant 45cm apart for a hedge. Trim in spring or late summer.
