Ilex aquifolium 'Argentea Marginata'
Holly - 3 litres
Ilex aquifolium 'Argentea Marginata' is the classic silver-variegated holly, with spiny broad deep green leaves with a clear white margin, flushed purplish pink when young and abundant bright red berries with a male holly planted nearby. Makes a fine free-standing specimen or screen and is the best variegated holly to grow as a hedge or topiary subject. Grows around 1.75- 2m high in 10 years. Capable of growing up to 15m by 4m in time, but size can be limited indefinitely by pruning in summer.
Thrives in moist but well-drained, fertile soil, in sun or light shade. For a hedge, plant 45cm apart and trim in early spring or July.
This plant has an RHS Award of Garden Merit.
