Laurus nobilis (bay tree) is an ever-popular evergreen, grown not only for its amenability to shaping but also the aromatic leaves which form the mainstay of bouquet garni and whose distinctive and unique flavour is invaluable to cooks. Can be trained as pyramids, standards and many other shapes. Formally trained plants are best grown in containers and overwintered somewhere frost free.
Medium to large hardy evergreen shrub. Plant in well-drained soil in a sheltered position in sun or shade. Trim to shape twice or more in summer.
This plant has an RHS Award of Garden Merit.
