Pieris japonica 'Mountain Fire'
Flame of the Forest - 2 litres
Pieris japonica 'Mountain Fire' is a distinct variety of this popular evergreen with bright red new leaves, which instead of fading to pink turn glossy chestnut brown, creating a dramatic effect in spring, maturing to dark green in summer. Further flushes of colourful new growth occur throughout the growing season. Clusters of showy white flowers open in April-May. Height and spread around 1.5m by 1- 1.2m in 10 years. Can be pruned to restrict size after flowering. Thrives with rhododendrons, azaleas and Japanese maples, in moist but well drained, lime-free soil, with light overhead shade, sheltered from cold, drying winds. Also excellent in a container, in ericaeous (lime-free) compost.
