Pyracantha 'Soleil d'Or'
Firethorn - 3 litres
Pyracantha 'Soleil d'Or' is a vigorous, dense, prickly evergreen with small neat dark green leaves and prolific showy clusters of creamy white flowers in early summer, followed by masses of golden-yellow berries which last well into winter. The flowers are attractive to bees and the berries to birds in winter. Most often seen trained against a wall or fence, it can also be grown as a bushy, free-standing shrub in a border or as a hedge.
Height and spread up to 3m by 2.5m (10ft x 8ft), though can be kept more compact by pruning. Thrives in well-drained, fertile soil in sun or light shade. Trim after flowering in midsummer, to keep neat and expose the ripening berries.
