Papaver orientale 'Allegro'
Oriental Poppy - 9 cm
Papaver orientale 'Allegro', Oriental poppy, is a classic variety with large bright scarlet flowers with a bold black blotch at the base of the petals, in May-July. A hardy, robust, long-lived perennial, with handsome jagged leaves, thriving in any well drained soil as long as it is not too acid, in full sun. Height and spread 60cm by 60cm. Place twiggy or wire support over the clump in spring for the plants to grow through. Cut down to the ground after flowering, planting an annual or tender perennial such as a Dahlia or Argyranthemum to hide the temporary gap.
