Actaea simplex Atropurpurea Group
Bugbane, Cimicifuga - 3 litres
Actaea simplex Atropurpurea Group is a tall perennial forming an imposing clump of finely divided purple-flushed foliage. In late summer and autumn, spikes of sweetly scented white flowers, which are highly attractive to bees and butterflies, open from purple buds. Grows slowly to 1.5m by 60cm. Lovely with pink or white Japanese anemones and Rodgersias, with Hostas, Pulmonarias, and ferns in the foreground.
Thrives in deep, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil, in bright shade, needing sun for at least part of the day for best foliage colour.
