Agapanthus Regal Beauty
African lily, Nile lily
Agapanthus 'Regal Beauty', is well named, with enormous (30cm across!) rounded heads of rich, dark blue flowers in July-August. An impressive feature in a sunny border or large container and superb as cut flowers. Attractive to butterflies. Evergreen. Height and spread 1m by 60cm.
Plant in spring or summer in moist but well-drained soil in a sunny, sheltered position. Feed monthly with a balanced liquid fertiliser until flowering. Cover with a deep protective mulch or in cold areas lift and store in a cool greenhouse or conservatory in winter. To grow in containers, use John Innes No 3 potting compost, water freely during the growing season, keep dry in a frost-free place over winter.
