African lily, Nile lily - 2.5 litres
Agapanthus inapertus 'Sky' is a distinctive and beautiful variety of the African lily, with heads of elegant, long, slender, pendulous sky-blue flowers in August and September, followed by seedheads which add interest in autumn and winter. Attractive to butterflies. A graceful addition to a sunny border; lovely in a container and superb as cut flowers. Good seaside plant. Handsome greyish-green deciduous foliage. Height and spread 1.2-1.5m by 50cm.
Plant in spring or summer in moist but well-drained soil in a sunny, sheltered position. Feed monthly with a balanced liquid fertiliser until flowering. Cover with a protective dry mulch in winter. To grow in containers, use John Innes No 3 potting compost, water freely during the growing season, keep dry in a frost-free place over winter.
