Olea europea the olive tree, is a slow-growing characterful small to medium-sized tree with neat grey-green evergreen leaves and tiny scented white flowers in summer. Olives will ripen only in long, hot summers. Prune in spring.
Frost hardy evergreen tree. Height and spread after 10 years 3-4m x 3-4m. Plant in well-drained soil in a sunny site, ideally with the protection of a warm wall. If growing a container use John Innes No.3 potting compost and provide protection in winter.
