Acer palmatum 'Suminagashi' is an elegant Japanese maple with an upright habit and deeply cut, serrated foliage. The new leaves are red in spring, turning bronze-green in summer, and then exploding into brilliant crimson in autumn. A striking focal point in the garden. Reaches a maximum height and spread of 4m x 4m. Best in moist, well drained, slightly acidic soil in partial shade, with protection from cold, drying winds.
