Ribes nigrum 'Ben Sarek' is a highly recommended, compact variety, reliably producing heavy crops of large berries with a superb flavour, ripening in late July. Excellent stewed, in pies and crumbles and for jam and jelly making. Ripens in late July. Good mildew and frost resistance. Height and spread rarely above 1m.
Plant in reasonably well-drained fertile soil, rich in organic matter, in sun or partial shade, sheltered from cold, drying winds. Prune annually in winter or after fruiting.
