Learning & development
If you join Wyevale Garden Centres and want to learn new things, there’s plenty of career development opportunities.
If you join Wyevale Garden Centres and want to learn new things, there's plenty of career development opportunities. You take ownership of your own training and development and we provide the tools, ideas and activities to help you along the way.
We have one-to-one conversations several times a year so that you know where you're going in both your current and any future role(s), and what's expected of you. We regularly chat to you about how you're getting on.
We don't believe that learning only happens in a classroom - we think that learning new things happens every day, We want to help excite you about turning all of your experiences into learning - whether that's professional, technical, behavioural or personal.
We also passionately believe in giving everyone who works for us a clear idea of where their career with us could go and how to get there. We also like ambition and you to look beyond your team and daily role to see new opportunities in other areas of the business.
We discuss with you how you think you could apply your learning both inside and outside the workplace, and believe that providing these learning experiences doesn't just benefit our business, but your personal life too.
Our industry-leading e-learning programme was written especially for us. It has nearly 50 modules of horticulture training and 22 modules of business critical information or product training. All of our modules are open to anyone, in any of our centres, to complete as much additional learning as they'd like - and some come with a transferrable qualification (for example, food hygiene certificates) for your CV and to use in your future career.
We don't just develop our people in the technical parts of their roles; we also look at how work gets done, and the behaviours and skills used to do it.
We support all of our managers and leaders in how to give helpful and constructive feedback ‘in the moment’, so that we celebrate when people behave in a brilliant way and do things we really want to see.
When we know exactly what experiences and ideas might help you, we can then support you in many different ways:
- We create on-the-job learning activities, and the chance to share your knowledge as well as learn from some of the experts we have in our teams
- We offer a number of short workshops and ‘skillbursts’, to give you ideas to take back to the workplace, in everything from latte art, to setting proper objectives, to selling and delivering great service with passion.
- We've put together lots of longer programmes, from how to water plants properly to the skills and ideas needed to engage and lead high performing teams.
