Thanks to your votes, an area of the Kirkwood Hospice garden has been transformed for residents to enjoy.
You might remember in October 2015 at Pennine, a Wyevale Garden Centre, we asked customers to vote for one of three local causes they thought would benefit from a makeover of their outdoor space. Two months and hundreds of votes later, we had our lucky winner - Kirkwood Hospice.
The garden was designed by Head Hospice Volunteer and Gardener, Tim Grace, from Grace Landscapes, who worked with fellow Yorkshire landscape designer Elizabeth Joice and the centre team. Together, they came up with a concept for a garden area that would enhance the outdoor environment and help support the emotional needs of hospice residents and their families and friends.
With the help of the centre team and the volunteers, an area of the hospice's outdoor space has now been transformed into an evergreen-inspired garden. It features year-round colours, with a variety bed of Magnolias and Rhododendron, as well as easy-to-grow shrubs and perennials such as Corylus avellana ‘Red Majestics’, Choisya ‘Aztec Golds’, Euphorbia ‘Ascot Rainbows’ and Cornus alba‘Sibiricas’, all of which can easily spotted from afar when autumn leaves drop.
