With a massive range of flower colour and being one of the easier plants to grow, Achillea is perfect for every themed herbaceous border. There are strong colours such as the yellows of 'Moonshine' and the reds of 'Fanal' but also shades of orange such as 'Terracotta' and 'Walter Funke' together with an assortment of pinks.
Achillea performs best in full sun in moist conditions, it shouldn't be allowed to dry out as its lower leaves start to die back so are not the best of choices for a container. They typically grow to between 45cm and 75cm 1½ ft to 2½ ft and are ideal for the middle of a border.
They do not normally suffer from pests and are very easy to grow. They are very hardy but die back to ground level over the winter before the fresh growth emerges in the spring.
Try planting the red and yellow flowered achilleas with rudbeckia, gaillardia and helenium whilst pink varieties are perfect to accompany penstemons.
