Viburnum bodnantense 'Dawn'-x
This viburnum produces clusters of beautifully scented pale pink flowers on its bare stems in the winter so that the flowers are not hidden behind the leaves. It has a long flowering period and can flower from late autumn to early spring during mild periods.
It is totally hardy and will grow in conditions from full sun to partial shade, and even accept a fair amount of neglect including being grown in exposed positions. Growing to around 3m (10ft) in ten years, it is suited to the back of borders but it can be easily pruned to a smaller size to suit your garden if required.
Try under-planting with helleborus and spring bulbs or by mixing with other beautifully fragrant plants such as sarcococca and daphne to make a scented border.
